The Basics : Choosing a Website Builder

Pros and Cons of Website Builders for Start-Ups and Small Business Owners

(As seen above) Wire Framing is a process where designers draw overviews of interactive products to establish the structure and flow of possible design solutions.


 

If you're reading this, it means you've already made the decision to get a website built. I'm here to not only back up that decision, but also help guide you through the process. Alongside my own experience building websites, I spent time researching the best website builders so you don't have to. Part of my research was to create a list of great platforms to save you time. I would like to note that I've included pros and cons for all. My personal favorite is Wix. So that's where we'll start.

 

Wix A website-building tool that aims to improve the user experience, with templates available for those who don't know how to code.

Pricing information can be found here. Pro List 1. Free Plan Available (no custom domain with this option though) 2. Extremely User Friendly! 3. Integrates Google Business Profile and Social Media Marketing Tools

Con List 1. Editor response time can be slower than you have patience for - time is money 2. Analytics are limited, you'll need additional support in this area 3. Lots of complaints about customer service (I've never had to use it so this is purely based on research)

 

WordPress WordPress is a free, open-source website creation platform.

1. Extensive list of plugins to enhance your website

2. User-Friendly CMS that is great for blogging

3. Great selection of themes to purchase for web design (con is you have to purchase)

Con List

1. You are responsible for all security, installing updates, etc. = more maintenance

2. It's not user-friendly in terms of development and design. Coding knowledge would be beneficial for WordPress 3. Complaints with the SEO. Might need to hire a specialist to ensure you are being seen on Google

 

Squarespace Squarespace is an all-in-one content management system.

Pro List

1. Drag and Drop editor is great for those with little to no web design experience 2. Offers Hosting, Custom Domain, and Email integration

3. Solid Blogging space that's easy for beginners to use


Con List

1. No free plan - there's a trial, but it's only 14 days

2. IMO - not very user-friendly. Nothing is where you think it should be

3. Limited Customization and subpar SEO
